The Philodendron Rio (Philodendron hederaceum 'Rio') is a rare and stunning variegated variety of the popular Philodendron Brasil. Known for its elegant foliage, this plant features a striking silver and white center stripe running down the middle of its elongated, heart-shaped leaves, surrounded by shades of green. The Rio's leaves are longer and narrower than other hederaceum cultivors. Its unique variegation and easy-care nature make it a favorite among houseplant enthusiasts and collectors. Despite its exotic appearance, the Philodendron Rio is a hardy and low-maintenance plant, perfect for both beginners and experienced plant parents.

Plant Characteristics

  • Foliage: The Philodendron Rio is celebrated for its heart-shaped leaves with a bright silver and white center stripe, which contrasts beautifully with the darker green edges. Unlike the Philodendron Brasil, which has yellow or lime-green variegation, the Rio’s variegation is more muted and elegant, giving it a sophisticated look.
  • Growth Habit: This plant is a trailing or climbing vine, making it ideal for hanging baskets, shelves, or trellises. Its manageable growth habit allows it to thrive in a variety of indoor spaces.
  • Origin: The Rio is an original sport (mutation) of the Philodendron Brasil that was discovered and cultivated by Gabriella Plants. It has maintained consistent variegation patterns for over a decade.

Care Instructions

The Philodendron Rio is an easy-to-care-for plant that thrives in typical indoor conditions. With the right care, it will reward you with lush, variegated foliage.
  • Light: Provide bright, indirect light to maintain the vibrant variegation. While it can tolerate lower light conditions, the variegation may fade in insufficient light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.
  • Watering: Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so ensure the pot has proper drainage. During the growing season (spring and summer), water more frequently, but reduce watering in the fall and winter.
  • Humidity: This tropical plant thrives in moderate to high humidity levels, ideally around 50–70%. While it adapts well to average household humidity, misting or placing it near a humidifier can help it thrive.
  • Temperature: Keep the plant in a warm environment, ideally between 65–85°F (18–29°C). Avoid exposing it to temperatures below 55°F (13°C) or cold drafts, as these can harm the plant.
  • Soil: Use a well-draining soil mix, such as one designed for aroids. A mix of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark works well to provide aeration and prevent waterlogging.
  • Fertilizer: Feed your Philodendron Rio with a diluted liquid fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during the growing season. Reduce feeding in the fall and winter when the plant’s growth slows.
  • Pruning: Trim back leggy growth to encourage bushier growth and maintain the plant’s shape. Use clean, sharp scissors or pruning shears to avoid damaging the plant.

PRICE DOUBLED IN 2 WEEKS
Size: 18 Count (Pack of 1), Size: 18 Count (Pack of 1)
I rescue standard poodles mostly. I also train service dogs. My pack of "poodles" has all sizes and ages. This is not for profit , it is to save lives. Until 2 weeks ago -date now is: 08/17/2022- the price of these were around 20.00. My dogs all loved them. I have a buffet table with lots of storage I use to store the treats and it has room on top for all the treat jars. In the afternoon or evening, they'd get a hard, chewy treat like ears. Standard poodles love to chew . They could finish off one of the ears in minutes. These treats are quiet large and thin. They do smell but they are natural foods. NO WAY can I afford over 40.00 for 18 ears. Did pigs go exttict? Did they quit growing ears? How could They raise the price to cost double the amount? I looked at other ears on Amazon & the other brand i get which starts with a p- has not gone up. Paws- clipping. They have some Bizarre names so guess I'll just double my order for them. I have way too many dogs to give treats to. I want to be fair to all of them. They are my kids & will get the best I can offer. I did wait a few weeks before writting this. I also dropped my Sub & Save with this.
